You, Me, Them

Recently caught up with a few friends, and from them got updates on a few more mutual friends. Can't help feeling struck by how different our lives have turned out/are turning out to be. I mean, these are all either my ex-classmates/schoolmates/volunteer mates/workmates. We have shared experiences at some points in our lives (that remain deeply etched in our memories), but look at how things have diverged or are diverging... The 'social events' we attend, the goals we pursue, our daily routines, our joys, worries and laments. Some are doing well - they look good and their happenings sound as peachy as they look. Others are feeling around, sometimes a little lost, most of the times trying their best to make things work. Some are contented, their stable lives anchored by young bouncing babies. Others are caught in a silent complex web of tangled emotions.

Me...? Mine's pretty much a straight line. Comfortable and predictable except for certain periods of overseas stints and occasions of bereavement. Some may think it boring, but I am thankful for the homely pleasures. Next year, a new phase... Perhaps the most 'exhilarating' one yet?
