first meal

Oh well, I just cooked my first 'meal' @ new home. Just a very simple combo of chicken-abalone flavored koka maggi mee + boiled brocoli & mushrooms with oyster sauce & sesame oil + toasted leftovers of roast meats. And I bought all the sauces & oils & perishables from ntuc just few hours before kitchen foray.

It's not that I have not cooked before - I had, while I was away in Vancouver, and I survived nicely. But this is the first time I've fiddled with any kitchen ware since mama left. It had been a psycological barrier all these while I guess, coz ma's one mean cook. She would cut, slice, wash, marinate, toss, fry, steam, boil, stew all sorts of stuff with flair and then scrub the kitchen up till it's gleamingly clean. The kitchen is her territory. So I guess, today's simple meal + clean-up has been an achievement. Papa's probably thinking about the past as he chewed on the soggy noodles. I promised the food would only get better. After a yr & 3mths of eating out, I do admit that the body deserves something better (not neccessarily in taste, but definitely in health quotient). May the power of ma be with me as I try and pick up the pieces slowly once more...

Tonight's the night where it all ends. Italy vs France - the final showdown. One more night of unholy awakening before the bio-rhythmn gets totally screwed up.

A good friend just decided to get married. And the ROM + wedding dinner(s) will be in 2 weeks time. Once more, I am humbled by how very different lives all of us are leading.

yes yes yes yes yes! i'm currently in the 'excited to cook' stage, so yups, am game for any type of cooking as long as it won't take me more than 2 hrs. the black pepper long bean dish sounds weird, the casserole ones sound nice... eh if its not too much of a trouble to write, then do bring on the recipes! when u return next yr, i shall cook for ya. Hee.
