Drying that hair

The hair dryer exploded on me.

There was the unmistakable smell of rubber burning, the unmistakable sound of fuse sizzling and the unmistakable sight of sparks flying out of the dryer in big showers. Freak!

The whole episode lasted barely 5 seconds (up to the moment when I switched off the socket power) but the side of my right palm was already covered with soot. After washing it off, what's left was a sore red piece with an elevated blister. Ouch...

It's been 4 days since the accident, and the blister's now a hardend raised bump. I got a new hair dryer - Panasonic instead of the one that kamikazed - Philips. The salesperson said the former's more reliable as the parts are assembled in Thailand compared to the latter which is now made in China... Oh well, as long as it won't explode in my hand, or burn off my hair. *Shudder*

You take care of your hair dryer.

And The Skies Opened

Finally, it's raining!!! And the weather's cool enough at night for me to sleep without air-conditioning! Finally, there is a chance of our PUB bill heading south! Thank Buddha, and Jesus, and Allah!

Then again, it really isn't supposed to be raining like this in March, not these sudden huge downpours, nor those long-living drizzles that pittered and pattered. Haiz... our global climate is wrecked. And who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?! Not us? Then who? The plants? The animals? Or the itsy bitsy insects?

Pitter patter... Rumble of thunder

Yippee, It's Over!

Okies, so it ended up being an almost 900pax affair. Woo hoo!

Oh well, there were a couple of rather visible AV glitches and some unfortunate (and uneccessary) revelation of office politics but overall, things went ok without major fatalistic errors. So glad it's over!

A good learning experience, though I think there are some loose raw ends that need to be tied. When it comes to human-human interaction, there is no one perfect solution. Fight, Fright or Flight? Hmmm, the parties involved shall decide.

Goodnights!

You Say, I Say

15hrs to the Forum!!

The event that a group of us has been frantically preparing for, with the momentum exponentially ramped up during the past 2 mths. 18 plenary sessions, 2 keynote speeches, 1 panel discussion, 1 GOH, 2 overseas speakers, 27 invited guests, 750 participants. Hmmm... *sweat*

Just hope there'd not be any visible boo boos - I mean, no one event is perfect, isn't it? Just hope that any hiccups that arise are small and/or won't be spotted.

May Buddha bless us.

W for Weekend!

I am bushed. Phwoosh.... like a pricked balloon. All I need is a damn good break today, away from work, the documents, the reports, the figures... The eyes are fried after consecutive days of squinting at the computer, toggling between the multiple screens and trying to meet all the different requests at the same time. All I want to do today is to nuah in front of the tv and watch tear-jerking Korean dramas.

I've worked too hard.

But the psycho thing is, I think I rather enjoy working hard. Most of the time, that is, I like that adrenaline rush as I bustle between the various projects, the test of turning out good (or great) pieces of work while keeping to mandated deadlines, the challenge of convincing my bosses of certain decisions to take, and of course the speed at which time passes when I'm busying. I guess I am quite a workaholic. Just that I occasionally also like to whine.

A results were released yesterday. Can't believe it's already been one year since that somewhat traumatic episode of deciding whether to return to Institution. I wonder how it performed this time round. Sent a message to a pal who's still there, but no reply yet... Wonder if everyone's busy celebrating or quietly hiding in some igloo.

Then again... Life moves on.

There goes our first attempt

Pooof... There goes $10 down the drain and into certain ministry's bunny. At least for now, it seems that way. With a queue number of 1899 for the 1102 available 4-roomies, we can only pray that the first 797 ppl ahead of us reject their chances before we even get a sniff at the remains.

Looks like it's byes byes for now, dear Dawson. Wonder how many more $10 we'd donate before we give up and go for resale. Or worse come to worse, we'd urban-squat and hit headlines. :P
